As part of its commitment to supporting innovation in the fields of environment and sustainability, Banque Misr organised a celebration on the final day of the first cycle of the first green business accelerator “TEQDAR Go Green”, attended by Mr. Ahmed Issa , Deputy CEO of Banque Misr, representatives of the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) and Chemonex Egypt Consulting, as well as a number of entrepreneurs
from nine start-ups that qualified for the final round after passing multiple stages of evaluation and selection from among more than 100 companies that applied to the programme since its launch.

The closing ceremony featured presentations from the final companies selected for the programme, which is the first of its kind in Egypt to specialise in supporting start-ups working in the sectors of recycling, renewable energy, energy and resource efficiency, and waste-to-energy. Banque Misr announced that it is investing in a select group of these companies through Misr Innovation and Entrepreneurship, its investment arm dedicated to start-ups, as part of the bank’s vision to support the innovation ecosystem and promote the growth of companies with an environmental and social impact.

The TEQDAR GO Green programme was launched in collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) as part of the Swiss Government-funded “Comprehensive Green Growth in Egypt” project, in partnership with Chemonex Egypt as a technical support provider, with the aim of accelerating the growth of high-potential green companies in the recycling, renewable energy, energy and resource efficiency, and waste-to-energy.

Dr. Suzanne Hamdy, Head of Sustainability and Sustainable Finance at Banque Misr, emphasised that this programme is in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030, which places sustainability and the transition to a green economy at the heart of its development priorities. Banque Misr believes that environmental innovation is a key pillar for a more resilient and sustainable future, and the accelerator is part of the bank’s broader strategy to promote green technology and link it to integrated financing and advisory solutions that support entrepreneurs and facilitate the growth of their companies.

She also expressed her deep appreciation to the participating start-ups for their innovative ideas in recycling, renewable energy, energy and resource efficiency, and waste-to-energy conversion, and valued the fruitful cooperation with strategic partners UNIDO and Chemonex Egypt, emphasising that this type of partnership enhances the chances of success for development initiatives and creates a sustainable impact on the Egyptian economy.

Ms. Anakara Skandoni, Director of the Inclusive Green Growth in Egypt (IGGE) project and Industrial Development Expert at the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), expressed the project’s pride in collaborating with Banque Misr in supporting the implementation of the “TEQDAR Go Green” programme, an innovative pathway aimed at promoting the growth of green micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, representing the beginning of a new generation of green growth acceleration programmes in Egypt.
