The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat has received Ambassador of India to Egypt Suresh K. Reddy to discuss ongoing cooperation between the two countries in ICT, and explore ways of strengthening collaboration in offshoring, digital capacity building, support for startups, and artificial intelligence. The talks also addressed opportunities to attract more Indian investment into Egypt’s ICT sector.

The meeting reviewed progress on projects implemented under the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Egypt and India, which covers areas including e-government, IT industry development, digital innovation and entrepreneurship, capacity building, electronics design and manufacturing, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies. Reference was also made to Indian investments in Egypt in offshoring, electronics manufacturing, and digital transformation.

Talaat underlined the role of the ICT sector as a key contributor to Egypt’s economy, particularly in offshoring. He highlighted the joint successes achieved in this area, the presence of several Indian IT companies in Egypt, and cooperation in digital skills development between the Information Technology Institute (ITI) and its Indian counterpart. He expressed his eagerness to see further collaboration in light of MCIT’s initiatives to build digital capacity.

For his part, the Indian Ambassador congratulated the ICT Minister on Egypt being chosen to host the first edition of AI Everything Middle East and Africa in February. He noted that India will also host AI Impact Summit during the same month, describing such events as important steps towards strengthening international cooperation in AI. Reddy expressed hope for even deeper bilateral ties between Egypt and India in ICT.

The meeting was attended by Assistant ICT Minister for Strategy and Implementation Sherine El-Guindy, and Director of the Central Department of International Relations at MCIT Samah Aziz.
