The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology launched the annual “Digitopia” competition, which aims to discover and support creative ideas and outstanding projects that contribute to the development of the communications and information technology sector and promote the use of technology in the service of community development. This is achieved by encouraging creative young people, from fourth grade to 35 years of age, to develop innovative technological solutions to address societal challenges.
The first edition of the competition will run throughout the summer of 2025, from 1 August to mid-October. Registration for the competition will remain open until 12 August.
The competition covers several areas, including software solutions, artificial intelligence, cyber security, games and digital arts.
The competition is organised by the Information Technology Industry Development Agency, the Information Technology Institute, the National Telecommunications Institute, and the University of Egypt for Informatics.
Dr. Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, emphasised that the launch of the Digitopia competition comes within the framework of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology’s efforts to support digital creativity and spread a culture of innovation among school and university students and graduates by providing a platform that offers creators promising opportunities to unleash their creative ideas, hone their skills, and provide them with the practical experience necessary to develop their ideas and transform them into implementable technological solutions that contribute to building a digital Egypt. He added that digital creativity is one of the fundamental pillars for building a knowledge economy, emphasising the Ministry’s keenness to promote an environment of innovation and entrepreneurship by expanding the establishment of Digital Egypt Innovation Centres in various governorates, which provide a range of programmes to nurture digital creativity at all stages.
Dr. Amr Talaat added that the competition targets various age groups within a comprehensive vision that aims to discover creative individuals at an early stage, alongside efforts to nurture and support creative youth, thereby contributing to the development of a generation capable of creativity, innovation, and active participation in the digital transformation process.
The grand prize is worth one million pounds, with multiple prizes worth 10 million pounds and training opportunities in collaboration with local and international technology companies. The prizes include cash and in-kind prizes, with the grand prize worth one million pounds, in addition to specialised training opportunities that contribute to the development of participants’ career paths in collaboration with local and international technology companies.
The target groups for participation in the competition are divided into four main categories: primary school students from grades 4 to 6, preparatory and secondary school students from grades 1 to 3, university students of various specialisations, and graduates up to the age of 35.
The competition is implemented in successive stages: the preliminary stage, which includes launching the initiative and opening registration; the first stage, which includes introductory sessions; the second stage, during which ideas are presented and the qualifiers for the next stage are announced; Then the third stage, during which ideas are converted into technological solutions, judging, and announcement of the finalists; and finally, the fourth and final stage, which includes the final round and announcement of the winners.
The competition’s judging panel consists of experts and specialists in the field of digital technology development and innovation, and the panel evaluates ideas, projects, and solutions during the various stages of the competition.
