MCIT Delegation Visits South Korea to Exchange Knowledge in Digital Transformation, AI, Data Governance

by Ahmed Hassaan

A high-level delegation from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) conducted a knowledge exchange visit to South Korea from June 23 to 27.

The visit, coordinated by the World Bank, aimed at facilitating structured knowledge exchange between Egypt and Korea on key areas like accelerating digital government, realizing the National AI Strategy in public administration, and developing future-ready, sustainable digital infrastructure.

The study visit took place in Seoul and Pangyo, and supported Egypt’s efforts to drive digital transformation under the Digital Egypt strategy. It provided an opportunity to learn from Korea’s valuable model in developing a world-class digital government ecosystem, applying the National AI strategy in the public sector, and cutting-edge, sustainable digital infrastructure.

Through policy briefings, peer exchanges, and guided visits, the delegation explored institutional models for scaling citizen-centered digital government services, Korea’s public sector AI strategy realization, and the data governance ecosystem. They gained insights into sustainable digital infrastructure, including cloud-first policies and green data centers. The visit also included site visits to AI labs and data centers.

Sessions covered key topics such as government digital platform, digital inclusion, digital government innovation, Korea’s National Strategy for AI and Open Data Policy, cybersecurity and data infrastructure, data protection and governance, digital innovation ecosystem, and digital economy. The program also allowed for strategic dialogue to reflect on how Korea’s experience informs Egypt’s roadmap for digital growth.

This visit follows a series of engagements between MCIT and the World Bank, including the Bank’s delegation’s visit to Cairo in May 2025, where meetings and consultations were held to discuss future areas of cooperation. During the visit, a digital economy workshop was hosted in Cairo, bringing together stakeholders from government, the private sector, startups, academia, civil society, and development partners. The workshop provided a platform for open dialogue on Egypt’s digital readiness and helped identify opportunities and challenges.

The study visit strengthens cooperation with both South Korea and the World Bank Group and reinforces Egypt’s commitment to adopting global best practices in building a digital, inclusive, and sustainable future.
