The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat has received the Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to Egypt Saleh bin Eid Al-Husseini. They explored avenues for strengthening cooperation between Egypt and Saudi Arabia in ICT fields.
During the meeting, the ICT Minister underlined the strong and longstanding ties between the two countries and the wide-ranging opportunities for collaboration in the field of ICT. Key areas of cooperation include building digital capacities, fostering innovation and entrepreneurship, advancing Artificial Intelligence (AI), and driving digital transformation. The cooperation also extends to developing telecom infrastructure, contributing to promoting digital integration between the two nations.
Furthermore, Talaat outlined the efforts of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) to build an inclusive information society within the Knowledge City at the New Administrative Capital. The City houses the Information Technology Institute (ITI), the National Telecommunication Institute (NTI), Egypt University of Informatics (EUI), Imhotep Innovation and Development Center, and the National Academy of Information Technology for Persons with Disabilities (NAID).
Talaat extended an invitation to Al-Husseini to visit the City to explore its ongoing activities and programs. He added that these efforts aim to foster innovation and entrepreneurship, support electronic design endeavors, and prepare a highly qualified digital workforce in collaboration with international universities and leading multinationals, support efforts to promote the local development of assistive technologies (AT), and enhance applied research in AI.
For his part, Al-Husseini highlighted the well-established relations between the two countries at the public and governmental levels. He expressed his eagerness to closely explore MCIT’s initiatives related to digital capacity building and entrepreneurship support during his visit to the Knowledge City and Creativa Innovation Hubs. Al-Husseini emphasized the significance of bolstering cooperation between the Ministry and King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) in advancing tech innovation and entrepreneurship.
The meeting also delved into the importance of boosting bilateral cooperation regionally to align stances on priority ICT issues, as well as support efforts to unify Arab visions and stances on international platforms.
The meeting was attended by Advisor to the ICT Minister on International Relations Khaled Taha, Director of the Central Department of International Relations at MCIT Samah Aziz, and Head of the Political and Islamic Affairs Department at the Saudi Embassy Talal Al Ghamdi.
