Egypt, represented by the Egyptian Computer Emergency Readiness Team (EG-CERT) of the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA), has claimed first place in the Global CyberDrill 2025, organized by the Telecommunication Development Sector of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU-D). The event was hosted by the UAE Cybersecurity Council during the 14th Gulf Information Security Expo and Conference (GISEC 2025), held from May 6 to 8 in Dubai.
EG-CERT demonstrated outstanding performance in handling cyberthreat scenarios, achieving the highest score in each exercise and the top overall score. The Egyptian team was recognized and honored by the ITU Secretary-General.
The Global CyberDrill aims to enhance the readiness and resilience of national cyber incident response teams (CIRTs) around the world. It focuses on building cybersecurity capacity through regional collaboration, supporting Member States in developing operational procedures, and identifying areas for improvement in national response and planning. The event also promotes knowledge exchange and reinforces international cooperation to cultivate a stronger global cybersecurity culture.
This year’s edition set a Guinness World Record for the largest number of participants, drawing teams from 138 countries. This milestone reflects the growing momentum of international efforts to address cyber risks and threats.
