Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, continued the field tours to monitor the latest developments in implementing the urgent plan to improve the quality of the supply, maintain the continuity of the electric current, increase the generated energies, rationalize fuel consumption, and ensure adherence to the standards of operational quality and maintenance programs according to specific schedules and timings. Dr. Esmat, today, Saturday, made a surprise field visit to the 6th of October Power Plant with a capacity of 1518.5 megawatts at kilometer 26 of the Cairo-Alexandria Desert Road, to follow up on the progress of work and stand on the actual reality of the progress of work, operation, maintenance, types of fuel used, and other requirements for good operation.
Dr. Mahmoud Esmat began the field tour by listening to a detailed explanation from the operating officials regarding the generating units and the total capacity of the station, which amounts to 1518.5 megawatts, which represents 16.51 of the capacity of the Cairo Electricity Production Company, at a rate of 11% of the total production capacity of the company, according to the safe operation requirements of the National Energy Control Center. The station operates on a simple cycle and combined cycle system, and the rates were discussed Fuel consumption per kilowatt
Dr. Mahmoud Esmat inspected the generating units and the main control room of the station, and listened to a detailed report from the station’s operation and maintenance officials on the efficiency of the units’ work and the total generated energy and compared that with fuel consumption rates, in addition to the maintenance plan and implementation schedules and the extent to which this is taken into account and peak times and high loads on the unified national electricity grid, as well as the plan to confront faults and their rates and different levels and the speed of response of emergency teams within the framework of work
The field tour included a surprise visit to the temporary headquarters of the October 2 Distribution Networks Administration in the October Gardens area, where Dr. Mahmoud Esmat entered the administration among the citizens and waited in front of the service window to make measurements and install new meters and listened to complaints about the lack of preparation of the place as it is a temporary headquarters, and Dr. Esmat directed some questions to the competent employee related to obtaining the service, then he inspected the various departments, including revenues, commercial departments and service provision locations, and listened from the administration officials to an explanation about the total energy sold, the percentage of loss, collection rates and procedures followed to combat the phenomenon of electricity theft and obtaining the service through illegal means, especially since the number of subscribers is 200433 The administration serves approximately 94 areas, including Haram City, Ebni Beitak 7 areas, Sakan Misr and Al-Firdaus.
